Ghaziabad is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh and also it is part of NCR. The city has its own history, culture and society. There are industries, schools, colleges and upscale residential societies where eminent people including magistrates, lawyers, doctors, industrialists and other professionals live.
It came into being in the year 1976 when then chief minister Mr. N.D. Tiwari created Ghaziabad as a district. Before becoming a district, it was a Tehsil of District Meerut. Today it is a hub of real estate. People working in Noida, Greater Noida, Delhi, Faridabad and even Gurgaon stay put in Ghaziabad as it is well connected to nearby towns and also it is cheaper than other areas. One more reason for popularity of Ghaziabad is its rural backdrop that provides it a green cover. It is greener than adjoining NCR cities.
Ghaziabad is connected to NCR through rail and road network. Metro has just come up but the preferred mode of transport is a cab. A number of cab companies including the international cab aggregators Meru and Uber. Cabs do a brisk business as city residents keep visiting Delhi, Noida and other areas for job, business, shopping, dining and health checkup and to meet relatives and friends. But the biggest business comes from airport transfer service and pick-and-drop to railway stations and bus stations.
Cabs are available at every nook and corner of the city and they are available for inter-city and outstation destinations. Charges are kept nominal to get business. Some services like airport transfer are provided at fixed charges while for other services, there are flexible charges. Hourly charges make cabs affordable. But the charges vary from one cab to another. For instance, a Tata Indica will cost cheaper than a SUV.
An integrated transport system for NCR is being mulled by governments Delhi, UP, Haryana and Rajasthan. But cab business is still flourishing and the demand for cabs is expected to increase in future. It is so because cabs provide doorstep service and also cabs are always available on demand. There has come up a number of cab operators in the city but most of the new service providers own either one or a couple of cabs. Also some cab operators outsource business to others.
Cab operators take responsibility of safe transportation that includes well-maintained cars and well-trained drivers. Also the cab operators have to keep record of every driver and every trip. It is for the customers to make sure that they book cabs from reliable operators. Since there are many cab companies in Ghaziabad, they compete with each-other for business and give discounts. But customers should make no compromise with safety of their life and belongings.
Ghaziabad needs smooth transport and cabs make the basic framework of transportation in this city. The city expanding fast and so is public transport but still cabs are the preferred mode of transport for city residents. Running too many cabs causes traffic snarls but the cabs are necessary for city transportation.
